On March 11, 2011, Taylor Anderson, Theta Zeta-Randolph-Macon College alumna and beloved Alpha Gamma Delta sister, tragically lost her life in the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. A passionate advocate for cultural exchange, Taylor graduated with a degree in International Studies with minors in Asian Studies and Political Science in 2008. Through the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program, she devoted her life to educating students and strengthening the bond between the United States and Japan.

Taylor’s legacy lives on at Randolph-Macon College and in the hearts of Alpha Gamma Delta members. She continues to inspire others, especially through the college’s Japanese study abroad program. Each year on March 11 at 2:46 p.m., the RMC community observes a moment of silence in her honor.

According to her fiance at the time, "She taught me to embrace life and follow my goals and not to worry about where the journey will take me. She taught me to break up the routine, to go out and explore and think of every day as an opportunity to have fun. She taught me that if you get the sudden urge to try something new, then do it... and if you have any friends nearby, drag them along with you- they will thank you later. Taylor lived by these principles, and her life was so full of love and happiness that I feel lucky that I was able to be a part of it."

In honor of Taylor's memory, Theta Zeta Chapter has established the Taylor Anderson Memorial Scholarship, benefitting collegians and alumnae of Theta Zeta. Taylor reminds us of the difference one person can make and remains a lasting symbol of hope and unity. A gift today helps carry on her legacy of living with kindness, embracing diversity and welcoming change.
